Careers Insight Talk - Avionics, RAF

This morning we were joined by Chief Tech Jason Old. Jason works in the RAF as an avionic engineer.

Jason spoke to us about his career journey. Starting out in construction as an architectural technician, Jason's career pathway took an unexpected turn when the economy went into recession and he lost his job. Jason went to his RAF careers office to see what opportunities they had to offer. This led to him joining the RAF as an avionics engineer. This means that he is responsible for all the electronic equipment on the aircraft.

Throughout his career, Jason has been able to travel the world visiting countries including Iceland, Australia, Singapore, Cyprus, Iraq and Thailand. He was worked on all types of aircraft including the Hercules, the Typhoon and the Nimrod. Students asked him about the biggest planes he had flown. in the smallest plane, the fastest plane and what it takes to be successful in the RAF.

A fascinating talk, thank you Jason.
