Careers Insight Talk - Adult Speech and Language Therapy

We were excited to welcome Jennie Morgan to the Academy.

Jennie was here to talk to students about her career as an adult speech and language therapist. Jennie is a Highly Specialised Speech and Language Therapist with Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.

She explained about the three key areas which she works in - communication, swallowing and AAC (augmentative and alternative communication). We learnt about how speech and language therapy provides treatment, support and care for children and adults who have difficulties with communication, or eating, drinking or swallowing.

We found out that to be a speech and language therapist you need a degree which is accredited by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. Speech and language therapists also need great people skills.
