Year 9 - Introduction to Law

Virtual workshop

Year 9 students were given the opportunity to attend a virtual workshop - Introduction to Law.

The aim of the workshop was to inspire and educate the students to all the potential career opportunities that could be available to them in a law firm while developing their soft skills of debating in the classroom.

As part of the virtual workshop students were able to understand: The Legal Profession and Law and Other Industries; Working in a Law Firm; Routes into Law; Employability and how to become a lawyer.

Students then engaged with – The Jaffa Cake Debate. The debate task they were given was undertaken with the guidance of the law firm and solicitors. The debate mirrored the real life high court case of the HMRC vs McVities – is the Jaffa Cake a cake or a biscuit.

All students were a credit to the academy and were given many compliments from the solicitors listening in to their arguments and the rebuttals.
