Information For Students
The Careers Learner journey is a visual map of the careers programme at Castle View Enterprise Academy from when you start in year 7 until you leave in year 11.
Your careers journey will contain lessons in PSHE (Lifeskills), employer talks, workplace visits, events with local employers, colleges, training providers and apprenticeship providers.
All of these experiences and opportunities will help you to explore different careers, pathways and progression routes and find out more about the world of work. This will support you in making informed and realistic decisions for your next steps.
Careers guidance
As part of our careers programme, all year 11 students are provided with a one to one guidance interview with our qualified careers advisor and Careers Leader, Mrs McDermott.
Students in all years can request a careers guidance interview by speaking to or emailing Mrs McDermott (Careers Leader) or by contacting the Careers Team ([email protected]).
Following your guidance meeting, you will be provided with an action plan to support you with your next steps. This can be shared with your parent / carer to help them support you.
Careers insight talks
We invite people from a wide range of careers into the Academy on a regular to speak to students. Look out for upcoming speakers on the plasma screens. If you have any suggestions as to careers you would like to see feature in our careers talk programme, please let Mrs McDermott know.
Virtual work experience
Get involved in exploring your future and improving your digital and creative skills online in your free time.
The world of work is changing with many more people working from home. You can experience what this is like, finding out whether working for a big company like Facebook, Unilever or ITV is for you, or whether you'd like to try something else. DigData and Springpod are online resources where you can do online challenges for various big companies and, at the end of it, you get a certificate of virtual work experience.
If you're more interested in the creative industries you can download the ERIC app for information, opportunities and courses that can help you discover the path that's right for you.
You can use this experience on your CV and college applications to show you're serious about improving yourself and your digital skills.
Places you can get virtual work experience
- Springpod - Connect with industry experts, complete mini-activities, and get noticed by employers
- Dig Data - Online resource for virtual work experience tasks from companies such as Facebook (Meta), Unilever and ITV.
- ERIC - a creative career app helping young people gain experience for their portfolios and CVS
For more information on virtual work experience, see Mr Whyman.
