Careers@CVEA - Primary Education Taster Event, Durham University
Students were invited to attend this event to find out more about becoming a primary school teacher. During the day, students had a careers talk from an ex-primary headteacher, they had a campus tour and worked with current primary education undergraduates to find out more about what training to be a primary teacher involves.
In 'History in a Suitcase', students explored how they could use physical artefacts and objects to engage primary students. They also had academic sessions delivered by university professors in geography and psychology.
The Q&A session with the undergraduates allowed students to consider the skills and qualities a primary teacher needs as well as exploring the different pathways into teaching.
