BTEC Music And Performance L1/L2
Course objectives
This course allows students to fully engage in the performing arts and the flexibility to study acting, dance and/or musical theatre, giving students the opportunity to develop knowledge and technical skills in a practical learning environment across years 10-11.
Unit information
Within the first year of the BTEC students study two components of work which are both internally assessed and externally moderated.
Component 1
Exploring the Performing Arts, develops students understanding of the performing arts by examining practitioners' work and the processes used to create performance. Students examine varied pieces of existing professional repertoire through research activities and practical workshop sessions before analysing a specific work in depth for the Pearson Set Assignment (PSA).
Component 2
Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts, develops students performing arts skills and techniques through the reproduction of acting, dance and/or musical theatre repertoire as performers or designers. This is very much the practical element of what is learned in Component 1 and the development of their own performance skills needed is very much a focal point; applying these skills to rehearsal and performance and evaluate these skills through own personal development. This task is also set as a Pearson Set Assignment (PSA).
Component 3
Responding to a Brief. Students are required to work as part of a performance group to contribute to a workshop performance as a performer or designer in response to a given brief and stimulus provided, and externally assessed, by the exam board. Students are in full control of their response to the stimulus and their knowledge from key stage 3 also contributes to this as well as the development of these skills and further knowledge at key stage 4.
Why study
