Course objectives

The course enables students to understand and respond to what they hear, read and experience. It allows students to communicate accurately, appropriately, confidently and effectively whilst encouraging them to enjoy and appreciate a variety of language.

The course complements students' ability to work with information and ideas in other areas of study, for example, by developing skills of analysis, synthesis and the drawing of inferences. It also promotes students' personal development and gives them an understanding of themselves and others.

Why study

English Language is a core subject and must be studied at Key Stage Four. English Language is central to progression in your life and in your career and it is an essential requirement for all Post 16 courses and in the world of work.

English Language will allow you to demonstrate the use of English in real life, investigate how language is used and to draw on your own experience. All colleges, universities and employers will require you to communicate clearly and precisely with confidence both verbally and on paper.
