Unit information
GCSE separate Science consists of six written papers, as does GCSE combined Science.
Biology - Each paper is 105 minutes long and is worth 100 marks (50% of the qualification).
Chemistry - Each paper is 105 minutes long and is worth 100 marks (50% of the qualification).
Physics - Each paper is 105 minutes long and is worth 100 marks (50% of the qualification). Students need to answer all questions with good spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Papers contain multiple choice, structured, closed short answer and open response questions. These are offered in Foundation and Higher tiers. This is now a linear course so all examinations are completed at the end of the academic year. You will gain three full GCSE's.
Why study
Separate science consists of studying Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Each of which, provides an opportunity for further developing an understanding of science explanations, how science works and the study of elements of applied science, with particular relevance to professional scientists.
GCSE Separate Science provides the opportunity to: develop interest in and enthusiasm for the three sciences, develop a critical approach to scientific evidence and methods, acquire and apply skills, knowledge and understanding of how science works and its essential role in society, acquire scientific skills, knowledge and understanding and progress to further learning.
