Course objectives
The Cambridge National in IT raises students' confidence and understanding in the use of IT in the digital world. Students will be equipped with the confidence to apply and use skills that are relevant both to the IT sector and more widely.
Students will learn about:
- The use of IT in the digital world
- The Internet of Everything (IoE)
- Data manipulation using spreadsheets
- The design and implementation of human-computer interface (HCI)
- Augmented Reality
Students will develop knowledge and understanding in a number of key areas as they plan, design, create, test and evaluate/review IT solutions using spreadsheets and Augmented Reality (AR) products to meet client and target audience requirements.
Unit information
R050 - IT in the digital world
The digital world is central to modern life and work, and in this unit students will explore how IT is used in a range of contexts. They will learn about hardware, software, networks, emerging technologies, and how data is collected, stored, and used. The unit also covers the impact of IT on individuals, organisations, and society, as well as the ethical, legal, and environmental considerations involved. This unit is assessed through a terminal external examination (40%).
R060 - Data manipulation using spreadsheets
Being able to organise, analyse, and present data effectively is a valuable skill in many careers. In this unit students will learn how to design and create spreadsheets that meet specific user needs. They will apply tools and functions to manipulate and process data, create visualisations such as charts, and test and refine their work to ensure accuracy and usability. This unit is assessed through a coursework assignment (30%).
R070 - Using augmented reality to present information
Augmented reality is an exciting and emerging technology that allows users to experience digital content overlaid on the real world. In this unit students will design and create their own AR content to present information for a specific purpose and audience. They will plan, create, and test their AR project, considering technical, creative, and user experience factors. This unit is assessed through a coursework assignment (30%).
