OCR Sports Studies L1/L2 KS4
Course Objectives
OCR Sports Studies is a vocational qualification and helps students to move onto further education and follow sports related qualifications at college and/or University. The modules of study allow students to develop an in depth understanding of contemporary issues in sport, media and leadership.
Unit Information
Year 10
Within Year 10 Students will learn about the contemporary issues surrounding sports. Students will develop in depth knowledge of how different social group's participation is effected in sport amongst a range of other topics. Alongside this, students will also develop their practical sports skills where they will develop their skills and knowledge in both individual and team sports. Students will then develop the skills needed to officiate sports effectively.
Year 11
Within Year 11 students will learn about leadership in sport and they will develop the knowledge and skills to be effective leaders whilst having the opportunity to apply these newly developed skills when coaching younger students in school. Students then finish the course by studying how the media has an impact in sport through evaluating this relationship; students will develop a broad understanding of the media in sport.

OCR National Sports Studies combines theoretical knowledge and practical ability and is a vocational option rather than a GCSE. This course is ideally suited to students who enjoy taking part in a range of physical activities as well as developing their knowledge of officiating and leadership in sport. This course can lead to a successful career in the sport and leisure sector.
The vast majority of assessment within this course comes from the completion of coursework in a range of formats that include both written and verbal tasks rather than being exam based. OCR Sports studies is a course that involves discussion, team work, analysis, evaluation in both a practical and classroom based setting which students will enjoy contributing to and taking part in.
