Tutor Time

During our morning tutor sessions, we'll prioritise various topics linked the Personal Development curriculum, global events and/or nationally recognised days such as Holocaust Memorial day, the anniversary of the NHS. Morning sessions include reading, a focus on vocabulary, and oracy. These sessions will entail engaging in group discussions and answering numerous questions to foster a collective understanding and exchange of ideas.

Reading sessions will be structured around The Reading Hand framework. Each session will feature an extract, which could be either fiction or non-fiction. Students will have the chance to read aloud, either through volunteering or random selection. Following the reading of the extract, questions on the slide will facilitate the 'during reading' phase of The Reading Hand. The Reading Hand is utilised to guide students in delving deeper into the text.

At Key Stage 4 students will be provided with additional reading materials focused on Religious Studies. During the Religious Studies sessions we will be focused on different aspects of a particular religion(s) in relation to the theme of the week in order to understand the religion and theme further.

During the vocabulary session, the Frayer Model or its components will be incorporated. Specifically, tier two words related to the weekly themes or topics will be chosen for exploration. Students will receive direct and explicit instruction on vocabulary, ensuring they grasp the correct usage of new words across various contexts. It's important to note that vocabulary acquisition is cumulative; the more words we impart, the more our students will absorb, thereby increasing their likelihood of success.

The oracy session will be dedicated to looking at possible career pathways, skills builder skills and the chance to talk about your skills. Engaging in discussions about career choices and pathways is crucial for school students as it helps them gain clarity, explore diverse opportunities, and make informed decisions about their future endeavours.
